February is Black History Month in the United States. Each year communities are encouraged to celebrate the achievements of African Americans and their forebears. It is also a time to commemorate¹ the many struggles they have faced. Among the most painful of those episodes was the centuries-long practice of slavery, when men and women of African descent were bought and sold, and forced into lives of bondage² and hard labor³. As VOA's George Dwyer reports, a small museum in a town just outside Washington D.C. is acknowledging the nation's slave-owning past. Jim Bertel narrates⁴.
