　　第24单元 虚拟冒险

　　Sacks has the best job in the world, or at least he thinks so! He tests virtual reality video games. Every morning he gets up at 7 a.m., has a shower, reads the paper on the subway and arrives at the office at 8:30 a.m.

　　萨克有一份世界上最棒的工作，至少他是这么认为！他负责测试虚拟实境电动游戏。他每天早晨七点起床，洗个澡，然后坐地铁时看看报纸，半点半抵达办公室。

　　But Sack's office isn't a normal office. The ceiling is painted to look like outer space with stars, planets and galaxies¹. The halls are filled with life-size cardboard cutouts of aliens, movie stars, action figures and other fictional² characters.

　　不过萨克的办公室可不是正常的办公室。天花板漆成看起来和星星、行星及银行所在的外太空一样，走廊则摆满了与实物大小一般、用硬纸板剪下的外星人、电影明星、人形玩偶和其他一些虚构人物。

　　As Sacks rounds the corner in to his office his receptionist greets him good morning. Her hair id dyed pink and her nose is pierced in three different places. Sacks takes his office and sits down in front of a theatre-sized screen. He straps³ on a visor, and headset.

　　萨克绕过转角走进办公室时，他的接待员会向他道声早安。她的头发染成粉红色，鼻子则穿了三个鼻洞。萨克泡了他要喝的咖啡，接着坐在了一面剧院尺寸的银幕前，绑上眼罩，带上双耳式耳机。

　　Within seconds, Sack is transported to a combat warship⁴. He is invading alien planets. Some days he is racing⁵ horses across the Sahara desert. Other days he is rescuing beautiful woman from burning building.

　　没过几秒，萨克就被传送到一艘格斗战舰上，他今天的任务是入侵外星人的行星。有时他会骑着马横行撒哈拉沙漠，有时会从失火的建筑物中营救美丽的女士。

　　No matter what day of the week it is, Sack is always in for a virtual adventure.

　　不管一星期中的哪一天，萨克总是和虚拟冒险为伍。
