The world’s tallest tower and Japan’s biggest new landmark1, the Tokyo Sky Tree, has opened to the public.
Representatives of the building developer, the Tobu Railway Company, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony. Nearly 8,000 visitors were expected to head to the observation decks of the 634-metre tower.
But rain clouds meant there wasn’t much of a view. The Tokyo Sky Tree serves as a broadcast tower for radio and television, as well as being Tokyo’s latest tourist attraction.
The new Tokyo Sky Tree opens on May 22, 2012 but the expensive admission fees have everyone talking.
