A new deadly blast occurs in Egypt’s capital Cairo. The country’s state television says a crude explosive device has killed at least one person and injured 15 others, near Cairo’s iconic Tahrir Square. This came just hours after a car bomb killed at least another four people in front of a top security compound in the capital.
Officials say at least 50 people were injured in the car blast near the police headquarters. Eyewitnesses1 say gunmen opened fire on nearby buildings after the bomb went off. And smoke was seen rising over the city center.
A large number of ambulances were seen transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Egypt’s Interior Ministry2 says no one has yet claimed responsibility for either attack. But they come on the eve of the anniversary of the start of the 2011 protest that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak.
