The Japanese government has begun its ordinary parliament session, which is called the Diet. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected to give his policy speech during the session. The session is scheduled to last for 150 days, until June 22nd. Abe‘s policy speech and three other government policy statements are expected on the first day of the session.
According to the Japan New-Generation Overseas Chinese newspaper, Abe is likely to push forward the "right to collective self-defence" and his long-time goal of removing constitutional restrictions1 on a military build-up.
Parliament members will hold a question-and-answer session after Abe’s scheduled trip to India on January 25th. The ruling and opposition2 parties are expected to debate on the controversial state secrets law, the fiscal3 2013 supplementary4 budget and the fiscal 2014 budget.
