The Russian Foreign Ministry1 has urged the Organization for Security and Cooperation of Europe and the Council of Europe to immediately evaluate the situation in Ukraine in an objective manner. According to Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin, Moscow is "indignant" that Kiev has failed to fulfill2 the EU-brokered February 21st peace accord and the April 17th Geneva statement.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor3 Angela Merkel have held fresh talks via telephone over the crisis. According to the Kremlin, both leaders stressed the importance of "effective international action" to reduce tensions in Ukraine. They also discussed the supply of Russian gas. It follows a meeting in Warsaw on Friday, where Russia threatened to cut natural gas supplies to Ukraine in June if it receives no pre-payment.
