Russia is marking the 69th anniversary of its victory over Nazi1 Germany in World War Two. As happens every year, the parade is held at Red Square in Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin made a speech ahead of the parade, praising the veterans in the World War Two and calling the May 9th a day of “sorrow, patriotism2 and pride”. He also said remembrance have been held across the nation to commemorate3 the death in war.
This year’s event features 69 warplanes and helicopters, 149 military vehicles and over 11,000 troops, making the parade that largest show of Russia’s military might since Cold War. Since the end of the Second World War, Russia has held a military parade at Moscow’s Red Square on May the 9th, every year, apart from 4 years in the early 1990s, due to collapse4 of the Soviet5 Union.
