(单词翻译:单击)

China has promised lenient1 punishments for terrorists in the far western Xinjiang region who willingly surrender to authorities.

The move comes in the wake of Thursday’s attack in Urumqi, one of the deadliest to hit the region in years. In the wake of the attack, the ministry2 of public security announced a year-long anti-terrorist campaign, in which Xinjiang would be the main battleground.

According to local authorities, those involved in terrorist activities will be given mitigated3 punishments if they turn themselves in within 30 days. Those who surrender and give information relating to terrorist activities will be given minor4 punishment or will be exempted5 from punishment.

Five terrorists were responsible for the attack in Urumqi on Thursday morning. They ploughed through a vegetable market, throwing explosives from vehicles, killing6 39 people and wounding 94 others.
