Carrying victims from the earthquake, ambulances are rushing the injured to Ludian People’s Hospital. Meanwhile, doctors and nurses are racing1 against time, working to treat the injured. According to doctors from the hospital, most patients they have received are suffering from head and leg injuries. And those with serious injuries are being transferred to higher-level hospitals.
"When the quake struck, my sister was climbing a tree and was hit by a branch. Her head was injured and he lost consciousness. Because the road was cut off, even the motorcycles couldn’t get in. I carried her on my back and walked for two to three hours. When we heard the sirens from ambulances nearby, we carried her to them immediately."
Ludian People’s Hospital activated2 an existing emergency plan as soon as the earthquake struck. With many of the main roads to the county cut off by quake-triggered landslides3, the hospital dispatched a number of medical teams to walk into the quake-hit areas to provide medical treatment.
