New research says they are just like people, some flies sleep at night and nap during the day. Containing over 100 tiny lenses, a fly's eyes can see movements in many directions at once. And with hairs on his body that detect vibrations⁴, a fly sensed the alarm clock was about to ring. Elsewhere in the house, other tenants⁵ are stirring and some are getting hungry. For Mr and Mrs Smith, it's the start of another day. They are blindest to the thousands of freeloaders sharing every moment with them.
