　　1. 解词释义

　　Carry a torch的字面意思是“高举火炬”，比喻为“单恋，喜欢”或“执着某一事业或理想”的意思。如果表示单恋，喜欢某人或某物，执着于某一具体的事业或理想，在短语后面用解词for，后面再接名词或动名词短语，即：carry a torch for something or doing something。

　　2. 拓展例句

　　e.g. John has carried a torch for Jane for years but she doesn't seem to notice.

　　约翰已经对简单恋多年了，但是简看上去似乎没注意到。

　　e.g. I have been carrying a torch for my ballet education career.

　　我一直都执着于芭蕾舞教育事业。

　　Ps ：表示众所周知…….，可以用这个句型：It is well known that+从句。例如：

　　It is well known that professional sports are popular in the United States.

　　众所周知，职业体育运动在美国非常普及。

　　It is well known that the 2000 Sydney Olympics stadium is a multi-functioned gymnasium¹, too.

　　当然，2000年的悉尼奥运会场馆也是众所周知的多功能体育馆了。
