Independent flight carriers are facing huge challenges to take off into skies crowded by their state-owned competitors. The aviation market is dominated by the major three state-run players, with Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern airlines, occupying a total of 76 percent of the market share.
Meanwhile, the fourth largest carrier, Hainan airline shares about 14 percent of the market. Private players, such as Spring Airlines, Juneyao Airlines and Okay airways, were first allowed to take off about a decade ago. But they still only have about 4 percent of the market.
But the private airlines have a huge population base within which to expand. According to the forecast, the routes in or connected to China will account for nearly one fourth of the world's new passengers by the end of next year.
