　　A mysterious piece of plane debris¹ washed up on the French Indian Ocean island of La Reunion on July 29, prompting teams of international investigators² to examine whether it could be part of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

　　波音公司相关人员通过照片和残骸比对进行初步评估（conduct an initial assessment），新发现的残骸与波音777客机襟副翼（flaperon）部分有一定相似度，但没有透露更多细节。

　　专家透露在残骸上发现了编号（the serial³ numbers）BB670，这个虽然既不是飞机的编号 （plane's registration⁴ number），也不是零件编码，但在对其归属问题的分析上将起到关键作用。法国航空部门正在调查残骸跟去年3月份消失无踪的MH370航班的关系，预计数日内将有结果。

　　马航方面也发表声明，称正与有关方面合作检测残骸，现在判定残骸来源为时过早（it is "too premature⁵" for the airline to speculate its origin）。
