近期我们都在谈论interpersonal communication，谈到人际交往。那么“和别人相处得融洽”“和别人相处得友好”的说法有很多，例如：get along with，get well with，get on with......那么今天我有一个新鲜的说人际交往中我们相处得很融洽。是什么呢？
 
我们先来听下面的2个句子：
 
例句-1：Jim is a name dropper. He just likes to rub elbows with people who are interested in art.
 
例句-2：He likes to rub elbows with important people. It gives him a feeling that he's important too.
 
接招：在我们刚才听到的2个例句中，我们都可以听到同一个词语：rub elbows。短语中rub是“摩擦”的意思，elbow是“手肘”的意思。Rub elbows字面意思是手肘摩擦，从其字面意思我们想象一下两个人的手肘相互摩擦到一起，这两个人是不是产生了一定的关系，发生了一的关系，接触到一起，碰到一起了呢？那么很容易我们就可以想象其比喻义，其比喻义为：to associate with someone; to work closely with someone，它的意思是“友好交往”“友好接触”“亲密合作”。要表述与某人交往接触，在短语的后面加上介词with，即：rub elbows with，rub elbows with是指与某人作社交上或职业上的友好往来。短语中的elbows还可以用shoulders（肩膀）来代替，即：rub shoulders。
 
我们知道了rub elbows的意思，那么我们现在就回到刚才听到的2个例句中来看看它们的意思。
 
例句-1：Jim is a name dropper. He just likes to rub elbows with people who are interested in art.
 
这个句子的意思是：Jim是个喜欢到处留名的人，他只想和对艺术有兴趣的人交往。
 
注解：a name dropper：留名的人 be interested in：对.....感兴趣
 
例句-2：He likes to rub elbows with important people, it gives him a feeling that he's important too.
 
这个句子的意思是：他喜欢和要人来往，这使他感觉到自己也先要起来。
 
注解1：that he's important too是同位语从句，补充说明前面的同位词feeling的具体内容。
 
注解2：give sb a feeling：给某人一种感觉
 
注解3：Important people是标准英语的说法，在习惯用语中也有表示这个意思的说法，例如：a big shot，a big gun。
 
下面我们再通过3个例句来熟悉今天这个短语的意思和运用这个短语。
 
例句-1：I don't care to rub elbows with someone who acts like that!
 
我不喜欢和那样的人交往。
 
注解：care to：喜欢，愿意
 
Eg .I am wondering if you'd care to visit us next week.
 
不知道你是不是愿意下星期来我们家做客？
