Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has expressed high expectations for the UN-brokered Syria peace talks. He called on all parties involved to do enough "homework" for the second round of negotiations, expected to kick off on April 11th in Geneva.
Lavrov made the remarks when he met in Moscow with the visiting UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura. Lavrov emphasized the need to ensure inclusiveness at the negotiations.
He said they should be focused on promoting direct dialogue between the Syrian government and rebel forces. He also called on the United States and a number of European countries to take unified actions in the political process.
Staffan de Mistura meanwhile called for more effective efforts by international mediators, to ensure the cease-fire and facilitate humanitarian progress in Syria.
