China's first special envoy for Syria has praised Russia's role in Syrian crisis and said the international community should work harder together to defeat terrorism in the region.
Speaking in Beijing after being appointed last week, China's special envoy Xie Xiaoyan said Russia's anti-terrorist operations in Syria are part of international counter-terrorism efforts. Its military operations in Syria have effectively curbed the spread of extremists and terrorists there. With a new round of peace talks expecting to begin soon, efforts to counter terrorists within Syria will also help with the political settlement in Syria.
Meanwhile, China is urging for a political solution to the crisis.
"Through negotiations, consensus will be reached and a solution can be found. This has been approved by many hot issues. When I was in Iran, the nuclear deal was made through talks. It's the same case in South Sudan -- agreement made through negotiations but not military operations. So we insist to seek a political solution as primary guidance to solve the problem," Xie said.
