But it hasn’t been produced by the tree. It’scome from…these insects.

The lac bug⁴ sticks its eggs to the tree, and then to protect them, it produces a hard resin⁵.

Once it’s cleaned up, it’s edible⁶, and canbe turned into a liquid that gives some chocolate sweets their glossy⁷ coat.

I suppose it doesn’t seem very Christmassy, but it’s as natural as honey or milk.

So the final stage for my chocolate brazilsis to add the shellac.
