China on Sunday marks its National Day of Assisting Persons with Disabilities. This year focuses on a special group -- orphaned and disabled children.
Chairperson of China Disabled Persons' Federation, Zhang Haidi, has called on society to give more care to these children. According to the Federation, each year 200,000 children are either born with a disability or become disabled before the age of six. There are 520 thousand orphans nationwide, and among them, disabled children often require extra care.
In 2015, the central government allocated 2.2 billion yuan for these orphans. Currently, orphans raised in national organizations receive a subsidy of 1,350 yuan per person per month.
