China has called for countries outside of the South China Sea region to maintain neutral and objective positions on the South China Sea disputes and reiterated the importance of a peaceful resolution for the disputes.
"Our position on the South China Sea issue is clear. We hope countries outside the region maintain neutral and objective positions, and do not take sides with any country over issues concerning sovereignty and maritime interests. China and ASEAN countries will resort to a 'dual-track' approach to bring together the countries that are directly-concerned to resolve any disputes through friendly consultations and negotiations in order to maintain peace and stability in the region. We hope countries outside the region can respect our efforts," said Hong Lei, spokesperson of Chinese foreign ministry.
