SCO Secretary-general Rashid Alimov has released a declaration on the South China Sea issue. The declaration says maintaining peace and stability in Asia-Pacific, including the South China Sea, is of great importance. The members also encourage efforts by other regional nations in promoting a peaceful, friendly and harmonious environment in the South China Sea.
The declaration says the members also support relevant nations in solving territorial and maritime issue through talks and negotiations, based on bilateral agreements and the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea. It says the ways of resolution chosen by claimant nations should be respected, and that SCO members strongly oppose interference in the issue by any countries outside the region, or internationalization of the issue.
