Beijing says it is confident that China and Vietnam will be able to resolve their differences on the South China Sea issue, just like they have resolved land-border issues in the past.
China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Hua Chunying made the remarks at a daily briefing in the Chinese capital -- in response to a statement made by Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc earlier this week. Nguyen said on Wednesday that Vietnam seeks a peaceful solution to the South China Sea dispute.
"Our two countries have experience successfully resolving their difference through negotiation and dialogue. One example is the settlement of the China-Vietnam land-border dispute," said Hua.
"As for the South China Sea issue, China and Vietnam have drawn boundaries along the Beibu Gulf. There are still some unresolved differences. But we believe both sides can learn from our successful experience in resolving these kinds of problems in the past. With determination, perseverance and patience, we will no doubt be able to resolve our differences and our disputes."
