Japan's telecoms giant Softbank is spending just over $20 billion to buy a majority stake in the US mobile carrier Sprint1. The deal will bring together the third biggest mobile carriers in both Japan and the US. Softbank's billionaire founder2 and chief is Masayoshi Son. He's the brainchild behind this takeover. I caught up with him by phone from Tokyo earlier today and asked him what he hoped to achieve with it.
