中国文化中“面子”非常重要，可是如何向美国人解释这个概念还真不容易，今天Jenny和Spencer要帮大家解释一下“面子”的英语表达。
英语也说“脸皮厚”
英语中“脸皮厚”和汉语一模一样：
Thick skinned: 厚脸皮
但是脸皮薄，一般不会用“thin skinned”，而要说：
Not thick skinned: 脸皮不厚
Sensitive: 敏感
Self-conscious: 怕难为情
面子的概念外国人是从中国人这里学的
英语中原本没有“面子”的概念，但是很多外国人现在也知道:

如果对方不明白，如何用英语解释：
A person's reputation, status and dignity: 一个人的名声、地位、自尊
没面子不是no face!
各种和“面子”有关的英语怎么表达？
#1. Losing face: 丢脸
Losing face可能很多外国人会懂，不过并不地道。
怎么说：
So embarrassed: 很尴尬
How embarrassing: 让人尴尬
Feel so embarrassed: 非常尴尬
Feel so dumb/silly: 很无语/很愚蠢
#2. Giving face: 给面子
Giving face是非常中式的概念，英语中只能表达类似的意思：
Flatter: 奉承
Compliment: 赞美
Praise: 表扬
Show respect: 表示尊重
中国人喜欢说的“给我面子”，英语表达就比较平淡了：
I insist: 我坚持要这样
#3. Gain face: 有面子
Gain face也是很中国的概念，一般还是用respect来表达：
Gain respect: 被尊重
#4. Saved face: 挽回面子
Saved face英语中有一个更好的对应表达：
Redeemed yourself
Redeem: 挽回，赎回
