Chinese electric vehicle maker1 BYD has unveiled its new unmanned monorail, SkyRail, in Yinchuan, capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous2 Region, on Wednesday, January 10.

The unmanned train system will be officially put into operation in the second quarter of 2018.

SkyRail runs automatically. It also contains a self-contained automatic diagnosis3 system, real-time passenger flow detection and facial recognition systems.

In addition, it can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to 80 degrees Celsius4.

SkyRail is a 5-year project developed by BYD at a cost of 5 billion yuan.
