　　'The chicha! the chicha!' cried Don Pedro; 'our vigorous friend looks faint; fill up his empty glass!'" 奇赤！奇赤！佩德罗先生说；我们这位强健的朋友脸色不好啦；把他的空杯给斟满！

　　No need, gentlemen; one moment, and I proceed.  “不必，先生们；我歇一歇，就讲下去。

　　Now, gentlemen, so suddenly perceiving the snowy whale within fifty yards of the ship, forgetful of the compact among the crew, 这时，诸位先生，就在五十码的距离里，船上突然看到了那条雪白的大鲸，水手们都忘记彼此间的不和睦了，

　　in the excitement of the moment, the Teneriffe man had instinctively³ and involuntarily lifted his voice for the monster, 那个腾涅立夫人一时兴奋得本能地、不然而然地扯起嗓门喊出那大海兽了，

　　though for some little time past it had been plainly beheld⁴ from the three sullen⁵ mast-heads. 虽然刚才不久，那三个站在桅顶上的不高兴的水手已经清楚地看到了。

　　All was now a phrensy. 现在是大家都乱了起来。

　　'The White Whale--the White Whale!' was the cry from captain, mates, and harpooneers,  白鲸呀——白鲸！从船长、大副到标枪手都这样叫嚷着，

　　who, undeterred by fearful rumours⁶, were all anxious to capture so famous and precious a fish; 他们，不顾各种可怖的传说，都急于要捉住这样一条有名而希罕的大鲸；

　　while the dogged crew eyed askance, and with curses, the appalling⁷ beauty of the vast milky⁸ mass,  那些跟在后边的水手，则斜楞起眼睛望着那个骇人美景，嘴里骂个不停。

　　that lit up by a horizontal spangling sun, shifted and glistened⁹ like a living opal in the blue morning sea. 那一大团乳白体，被水平线上那个闪耀的太阳一照，直象是一片亮晶晶的乳色玻璃，在早晨的湛蓝的海里闪闪发光。
