Explosive teams were able to make the device safe. It had been designed to cause mass casualties. 2 days later, Shahzad was detained as he trying to flee to Dubai. He has since given full details of his attempted attack to the US authorities. Shahzad is a Pakistani-born US citizen. He told the judge he received bomb making training from the Pakistani Taliban. He is due to be sentenced on October 5th.
