APELDOORN, THE NETHERLANDS, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Australia and Britain captured the gold medals during the second day of the track cycling world championships in Apeldoorn on Thursday.
Britain won the women' s team pursuit(追赶), while Australia was victorious1 in the women' s team sprint2 and Australian Jack3 Bobridge grabbed individual pursuit gold.
The British women Wendy Houvenaghel, who gained her third world title in team pursuit, Danielle King and Laura Trott beat the United States in the final with a winning time of 3:23.419. New Zealand finished third.
"I am really proud of what we did" , Trott told Xinhua. "It' s one step forward towards the Olympic Games in London. But we still got one year to go. Anything can happen."Australia' s Anna Meares and Kaarle McCulloch won the women' s team sprint event for the third year in a row. For Meares it was her 6th world gold and her fifteenth medal in total.
The winning time in the final against Britain was 33.237. China grabbed bronze.
"We were not thinking about the three in a row" , Meares declared. "We may have won it three times in a row now, but the competition is closer than the results may look like. There is no cruising at all for us in this event."Earlier this year Jack Bobridge set a new world record of 4:10.534 on the individual pursuit and on Thursday in Apeldoorn he added a world title. He beat Jesse Sergent from New Zealand and recorded a winning time of 4:21.141. The bronze medal went to Australian Michael Hepburn.
"It' s overwhelming" , Garmin rider Bobridge reacted. "I could not ask for anything more."(本文由在线英语听力室整理编辑)
