　　The government announced our new ambassador to the United States will be Mike Moore. This is an interesting choice as Mike Moore was a Labour Party MP and also, very briefly1, the Prime Minister in 1990. The present government is a National government. However, Mike Moore is a good choice because he was head of the World Trade Organisation2 (WTO) from 1999 to 2002. He said in his new position, he will work towards more free trade between New Zealand and the US. He doesn’t think it will be a problem working for a National government.
He starts his new job in the middle of the year.
