France has declared a national disaster after severe storms lashed⁸ parts of the country. At least 47 people were killed as huge waves battered⁹ coastal¹⁰ towns and destroyed buildings.

And one of two men convicted of killing Sydney heart surgeon Victor Chang has been released from jail. Dr Chang was gunned down in the Sydney suburb of Mosman in a failed extortion attempt in 1991. Phillip Choon Tee Lim is being held in detention¹¹ awaiting a flight back to Malaysia.
