The Australian head of Rio Tinto will meet Treasury⁶ officials today to discuss the proposed new super profits tax. Rio Tinto says it wants to negotiate on all aspects, so the Government's plans to introduce a 40 per cent tax on the resources sector⁷. BHP Billiton is due to meet Treasury officials tomorrow.

And oil from the Gulf⁸ of Mexico spill has entered an ocean current. It could threaten Florida's west coast. Satellite pictures show the oil could reach coral reefs around Florida in six days. BP estimates about 5,000 barrels a day has leaked from the well which sank in April.
