The embattled BP chief Tony Hayward is expected to announce that he is stepping down from the top job. Mr Hayward was widely criticized in the wake of the Gulf4 of Mexico oil spill. He's believed to be negotiating the terms of his exit, and the announcement is expected in the next 24 hours.

In Thailand, one person has been killed in an explosion near the site of a recent anti-government protest in Bangkok. Nine other people were injured in that explosion at a bus stop.

And a Queensland bank manager who disappeared during an investigation5 into missing money at his branch has been found and charged. Bendigo Bank manager Colin Carleton vanished when an investigation into his Atherton branch found three million dollars missing. He was found camping at Cape6 Tribulation7, north of Cairns yesterday.
