 Portugal has approved an austerity budget aiming at curbing1 the country's deficit2. The drastic measures include tax rises and cuts to public sector3 salaries. Both the Portuguese4 government and the European Commission have denied suggestions the country is next in line for a bailout.

 
Three banks involved in the collapse5 of Storm Financial say they are disappointed at the corporate6 watchdog's decision to take legal action against them. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission alleges7 the Commonwealth8 Bank, Macquarie Bank and the Bank of Queensland participated in an unregistered managed investment scheme. ASIC also plans to take civil action against Storm founders9 Emmanuel and Julie Cassimatis, accusing them of breaching10 their duty as directors.
 
And to the market numbers, US stocks closed for the trading week in the red. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula and Europe's debt woes11 weighed on investors12 coming back from the Thanksgiving holiday. European markets have also slumped13. Both the FTSE and the DAX are down about 30 points. The Australian share market ended the week flat with both the banking14 and telecommunication15 sectors16 in the red. And Asian stocks were also down across the board.
