Egyptian authorities have beefed up security around churches after the weekend's bomb attack. At least 21 people died in the blast outside the church in Alexandria. The attack has sparked violent clashes between Muslims and Christians³.

 

The Christmas holiday road toll⁴ has risen to 24 after a man died on the Mitchell Highway near Bathurst. Six people have now died in New South Wales since Christmas Eve. Nine people have died in Victoria, five in Queensland, three in the Northern Territory and one in Western Australia. South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT all remain fatality⁵ free.

 

Police are still waiting to speak to a man about the stabbing death of his two-year-old daughter in Sydney's west. The man is under police guard in hospital, recovering from stab wounds to his chest. His partner was also stabbed in the chest and shoulder.

 

And Brendan Fevola is believed to have checked himself into a rehab. The troubled AFL footballer was arrested and charged for abusing police on New Year's Eve. The Brisbane Lions will hold a media conference this morning to talk about his future at the club. Fevola has now taken an indefinite leave from the Lions.
