Syrian troops have stormed the northern town of Jisr al-Shughour. Syrian state TV has reported fierce fighting between soldiers and armed gunmen. Much of the town is deserted2 after many of its residents fled into Turkey ahead of the planned assault. 
 
And heavy fighting is continuing across large parts of western Libya. Thirteen people have died after rebels launched a new offensive on the port city of Zawiyah after a two-month lull3. Battles are still raging in several other towns as the rebels take advantage of an increase in NATO air strikes.
