The eighth and final film in the Harry1 Potter series has smashed the US box office record for an opening weekend, summoning up $A157 million in ticket sales. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has beaten the record by almost $US10 million. The first seven films have earned more than six billion dollars worldwide.
Today marks the 45th birthday of the second longest running children's television programme in the world.
