2. The Obama administration may formally call for Syrian President Bashar al Assad to step down today. The speculation¹ comes as a UN panel says the crackdown in Syria may amount to crimes against humanity. He should be looked at by the international criminal court. Meanwhile, at least nine people were reportedly killed overnight in the city of Homs. 

 

 

 

3. A frequent contributor to a jihadist website has threatened David Letterman. In an online posting, he urges Muslim followers² to cut the tongue of the Late Night host because of a joke he made on his show. A spokesman for the FBI office in New York says it is looking into the threat. 

 

 

 

4. And hundreds of pilgrims came out to welcome Pope Benedict XVI to Spain. The pontiff is kicking off a four-day trip to Madrid for World Youth Day. A million or more young people are expected in the capital this week.
