Federal Cabinet is meeting this morning to finalise a new asylum5 seeker policy. Now it’s expected to recommend the changing of the law to allow offshore6 processing. There’s likely to be a heated debate about that policy in caucus7 with some members of Labor’s left faction8 staunchly opposing the move. 
 
And funerals have been held for the victims of a ferry disaster off the coast of East Africa. More than 200 people died when the overcrowded ferry capsized off the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar.
