　　Walter Samuel and Diego Milito scored the goals for the hosts, and Lille drew one back in the late time.

　　Inter almost had the perfect start, as after 120 seconds Milito was clear from Cristian Chivu's pass and chipped the 'keeper, but his effort only struck the bar of an open goal.

　　The home side took the lead on 19 minutes. Mauro Zarate's shot forced Landreau into a save and from that corner kick Walter Samuel, who had been a doubt to feature at all, rose above the crowd for the header.

　　Milito should've scored straight after the restart, as he sprung the offside trap when a free kick was knocked down for him and was clear on goal, but incredibly ballooned over from seven yards.

　　Hazard² skipped past Javier Zanetti only to drill wide with power, then Milito won back possession in midfield to go on the counter, but aimed it right at the goalkeeper when he probably should've passed to the unmarked Dejan Stankovic and Zarate.

　　Lille were still in this and Rozehnal's shot on the volley drifted over, while Moussa Sow's header was off target from a corner. At full stretch, Cole turned a cross just wide of the post.

　　Milito finally broke his goal drought and doubled Inter's lead. Javier Zanetti put it on a plate for his teammate, getting between two defenders³ to whip across the face of goal for the tap-in.

　　Lille's pressure finally paid off in the closing stages, as ex-Palermo flop⁴ Tulio De Melo took advantage of Lucio's howler to go clear and coolly chip Inter goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi.
