 　　今天是2月29日，是只有在闰年中才渡过的四年一遇的“闰日”。另外，2月29日也是“国际女性表白日”，这一天女性可大胆向男性表白，并且原则上要求男性必须答应。如果男性不答应，理应付给女性一定数量的伤心补偿费。

　　Today is "Leap Day" and for centuries has been traditionally associated with the idea of romance reversal as women take to one knee to propose to their men。
　　今天是“闰日”，也是几个世纪以来形成传统的女子主动向男子求婚的日子。
　　文中的leap day(又名intercalary day)，就是指“闰日”，是一个专有名词，指的是为调整calendar year(历年)/calendar month(历月)长度，使之接近tropical year(回归年)/lunar month(朔望月)而增加的一日。
　　通俗的讲，地球围绕太阳运转一周的time interval(时间间隔)约为365.2422天，而我们采用的calendar(日历)上每年只有365天，也就是说，每隔4年日历上就要多出将近一天的时间。为了解决这个remainder(余数)，每4年增加一额外的闰日——即2月29日。
　　另外，2月29日这一天还是“国际女性表白日”。据说，早在1288年，苏格兰就确定2月29日为“妇女权利日”。当时的玛格丽特女王颁布法令，宣布这一天女人可以向男人make a proposal(求婚)，并对无拘无束追逐女性又拒绝接受警告的男人实行罚款。如果被表白的男人拒绝，则需要购买物品送给对方，以示安慰。
