The Australian lawyer Melinda Taylor is expected to be released from Libya detention¹ centre today. She is one of the four lawyers detained last month while meeting the former asylum² leader Mouammer  Gaddafi. An International Criminal Court spokesman says its president will travel to Libya ahead of the release.

 

Extradition³ proceedings⁴ will begin today in Darwin for a man wanted over a murder in New South Wales. Northern Territory police have arrested Johnason Hernasburg who's been on the run since last week. He is accused of the beheading of a 54-year-old man on the New South Wales north coast last month.

 

A search will resume at first light for a man believed to have been missing in waters on the Gold Coast in Queensland's southeast. Water police and a helicopter scout⁵ the Surf lake yesterday after a Port Mandesion distress⁶ at a broad beach. The search was suspended overnight.

 

A study has found indeginous prisoners in Queensland will have a higher risk of mental illness than the general population. The study has found 73% of indigenous⁷ men and 86% of indigenous women at Queenland prisons have a mental disorder⁸.
