 The investment bank Lehman Brothers has been ordered to pay millions of dollars in compensation to 72 Australia councils and charities. The Federal Court has ordered Grange Securities, which was taken over by Lehman Brothers five years ago, to compensate1 the organizations for losses incurred2 from the US housing market crisis. The world's leading music recording5 company, Universal, has been given approval by European Union regulators to buy Britain's EMI. But Universal must sell some major assets, including EMI's Parlophone label, which includes artists like Kylie Minologue, Pink Floyd and David Bowie. Announcing its decision, the European Commission stressed the need to preserve choice, particularly in the area of digital innovation. The deal is worth 1.9 billion dollars. 
 
 
 
When the markets closed in Europe a couple of hours ago, London's FTSE 100 was down 2 points. The DAX and Euro were up. In the US, trading comes to a close shortly and the Dow Jones is down, while the S&P 500 is trading sideways. 
 
 
 
And the Australian dollar is worth 1 dollar 4 US this morning. It'll also buy you 64 British pence and 1 dollar 26 New Zealand.
