 　　China's top court has banned participants or bystanders in legal proceedings1 from recording2 or videotaping trials.

 
　　The broadcast of courtroom activities live via e-mail, microblog or other forms of media has also been forbidden.
 
　　Participants are also forbidden from applauding or other actions that could disturb the trial.
 
　　However, according to an interpretation3 of the amended4 Criminal Procedure Law, journalists who have permission from the courts are still allowed to report on trials.
 
　　The chief judge though has the right to seize media equipment used to broadcast trials without permission.
 
　　The interpretation will go into effect along with the new Criminal Procedure Law on Jan. 1st.
