The head of Medicare and Medicaid was grilled² today by House Committee on fraud implementation³ of the affordable⁴ care act. NPR’s Craig Windham reports Marilyn Tavenner says the problems are being addressed. 

The Chairman of House ways and means committee Dave Camp pressed Tavenner to disclose a number of people who actually signed up for a health insurance plan since market places opened. 

"How many people have enrolled⁵ in these exchanges?"

"Chairman Camp, that number will not be available to mid-November."

Tavenner added though the initial numbers of enrollment⁶ is expected to be small. She insisted the problems with the federal website are being corrected. 

"I want to ensure you that the healthcare.gov can and will be fixed⁷."

Camp said the healthcare law itself is not fixable. 

But Democratic Congressman⁸ John Lewis countered that the affordable care act is working. Craig Windham, NPR News, Washington.

 

The World Health Organization has confirmed 10 cases of polio in Syria. NPR's Jason Beaubien reports dozens more cases are suspected polio were being analyzed⁹ in WHO labs. 

The WHO confirmed the cluster of prodigious¹⁰ cases are among young children at eastern Syrian city Deir al-Zor, isn't outbreak of polio. This's the first case of polio in Syria since 1999 and apparently¹¹ to be linked directly to on-going civil war. Most the children who have been paralyzed are under the age of 2 and were properly vaccinated¹³ against the virus. Immunization rate in Syria has plummeted¹⁴. Their hospitals have been destroyed; doctor fled this country and the country's health care system has collapsed¹⁵ in the conflict. The WHO has launched a mass immunization campaign in both rebel-held and government controlled part of Syria to try to vaccinate¹² 1.6 million kids against measles¹⁶, mumps¹⁷, rubella and polio. It will eliminate 3,000 jobs, as on top of 2,500 previous announced job cut, let’s the snow comes from a hill of 39% drop in third quarter net income. 

 

Stock closed higher today extending the S&P 500 straight record high closes and the Dow was also a record high today. The Dow upped 111 points at 15,680; the S&P 500 rose 9 points.

Polling a ruling yesterday that block tough new abortion²¹ restriction²² in Texas. Federal appeal court judge is considering whether the granted emergency appeal was allowed the state to enforce the law. In quota²³ papers follow the Fifth Circle Court of Appeals, the state’s Attorney General is asking the judges to rule whether the law should be allowed to take effect. District judge ruled the law requires doctors have immediate²⁴ privileges of hospital in 30 miles of a clinic to perform abortion does nothing for protecting women’s health. The law simply @@ would close roughly 1/3 of clinics in the state. 

 

National Football League officials say it’s set to meet tomorrow with Latino America groups that opposing name of the Washington Redskins. But NPR’ Allison Keyes told us the team joint²⁵ reported it would meet with NFL today. 

From the president Obama, to lawmakers, to the United Indian Nation, the Redskins has faced the increasingly striking storm of criticism over its name sounds a feel of racial slur²⁶. Team owner Daniel Snyder has said the team will never change its name and Washington Post reported he told NFL @@ that he still has no plan to do so.

The US house prices were up by double digital amount in August, compared it with the same month a year ago. Standard and Poor Case-Shiller 20 cities indices show house prices nationwide up almost 13%, (the) strongest gain since 2006. All 20 cities in the indices show gains from the same period of a year ago. Prices in Los Vegas rose the fastest pace, more than 29% no same period in last year, though the prices they remain 47% below the world they were before the housing bubble burst.
