The world's richest manBill Gates says the wealthy should be made to pay moretaxes. The Microsoftco-founder is in Australiato lobby for increased foreign aid commitments.

 

Mr Gates told the ABC's 7:30 program he agreed with fellow American billionaire Warren Buffet¹ that the wealthy should contribute more to the public offers.

 

“You know I paid over 6 billion in U.S. taxes, glad to have done it.He is talking wealthy about the US, which is taxes to me knows, But you know in order to deal with all the medical cost demands and other challenges in the US, as we look at rate in that revenue, the rich are going to pay proportionally slightly more, I think, you know, that, that's quite clear."

To the markets.

 

The Dow was up 106 points at the close. The Nasdaq was up 30. The S&P 500 put on 10. And across in London,alsoa good night, for FTSE closing up more than 100 points as well.

 

To commodity markets.

 

West Texas Crude istrading at 95 US dollars a barrel. Tapis Crude is at 109 US dollars a barreland gold this morning is trading at 1380 US dollars an ounce.

 

The Australian dollar is buying 96 US cents, 75 Euro cents and 64 pence sterling².
