 Australia has won its bid to stop Japan from hunting whales in the Southern Ocean. The International Court of Justice has ruled that the whaling program is not for scientific purposes. Japan says it's disappointed, but it will abide1 by the ruling.

Brisbane police say they have a positive breakthrough in their efforts to identify a young woman murdered last week. The woman's body was found in a park in south Brisbane on Friday. Police say the woman may have been a foreign student or a backpacker.
 
Tasmania has a new opposition7 leader. Labor's former deputy Bryan Green has been elected unanimously to the top job. Former premier8 Lara Giddings had wanted to stay on as leader, but she didn't have the backing of her caucus9 colleagues.
