Microsoft is about to seal the deal of a 7.2 billion US dollar takeover of Nokia’s devices business Friday, which paves the way for getting into the mobile devices’ market.
Microsoft will takeover Nokia’s Devices & Services business, license1 Nokia’s patents, and license and use Nokia’s mapping services. Nokia.com and related social media will also go to Microsoft. The new entity2 after the takeover is named Microsoft Mobile Oy, but the Nokia name will reportedly stay for mobile devices.
The Nokia device and service department made early 15 billion Euro of income in 2012, accounting3 for about a half of Nokia’s total sales. Its smart phone Lumia is central to Microsoft’s windows phone strategy.
