BHP Billiton is looking at cutting thousands of jobs from its iron ore operation in Western Australia. BHP Billiton has employed external consultants1 to conduct a review in order to cut costs. The company says jobs are likely to go as a result of this, but won’t put a figure on it. escalated4. Voolworths says it wants to buy Mr. Lew’s stake in fashion label Country Road which they
jointly5 own for a
premium6. The offer conditions on whether Voolworths’ takeover of David Jones goes ahead. Solomon Lew recently bought a large stake in David Jones, many believed in the market that Mr. Lew bought into David Jones to force Voolworths to buy out his Country Road shares.
