The Central Leading Group for Judicial1 Reform in China, which is a body that aims to coordinate2 and supervise reforms in the judicial system, has called for the whole country to work towards constructing a society governed by the rule of law.
During a press conference, the group's administrative3 director Jiang Wei explained the three major components4 of the decision adopted by the CPC Central Committee last Thursday. The first part introduces the overall purpose and guiding principles of constructing a socialist5 judicial system.
The second part presents detailed6 requirements to improve and enforce the constitution. It also touches upon efforts to safeguard judicial impartiality7 and credibility. The last part deals with training and employing judicial personnel who are dedicated8 to the rule of law in China. Jiang Wei also talked about the goals of the judicial reforms.
"The purpose of the reform is to establish a just, efficient and authoritative9 judicial system," Jiang said. "The overarching goal is of great significance, that is, to build a socialist system of rule of law with Chinese features, and a socialist country ruled by law."
"In deepening the reform of the judiciary, we need to do our best, and also measure our own capabilities10. We need to address the easier issues before moving to the most difficult. We need to start from items that are easy, to reach consensus11 where conditions are ready, to achieve early results. So people can share the achievements of reform and feel justice in every case they are involved."
