NY governor Andrew Cuomo said snow removal is progressing well across the affected⁴ region. A ban on driving will continue as volunteers work to plow⁵ the city streets. 

 

3. A train carrying wreckage⁶ collected from the Malaysian Airlines flight 17 departed from northeastern Ukraine four months after the plane was shot down over rebel-held territory. Investigation⁷ into the cause of the crash is being conducted in both Ukraine and Netherlands. Ukraine says pro-Russian backed separatists fired rockets that brought down the plane in July. 

 

4. And the former DC mayor Marion Barry has died at age of 78. Barry whose four terms as mayor were overshadowed by his 1990 arrest for being caught smoking crack cocaine⁸. Barry spent several weeks earlier this year battling infections and related complications.
