Speaking on environmental protection, Premier1 Li Keqiang called improving the environment a “battle” and listed the major targets for this year.
 
"We will fight to win the battle of conserving2 energy, reducing emissions3. and improving the environment," Li said.
 
"This year, we will cut the intensity4 of carbon dioxide by at least 3.1 percent, reduce both chemical oxygen demand and ammonia nitrogen emissions by around 2 percent, and reduce emissions of sulfur5 dioxide and nitrogen oxides by around 3 percent and 5 percent respectively."
